The Marfa 10 x 10 Tiny House

This quirky tiny house belongs  to the Marfa community in Texas. Called the Marfa 10 x 10, the house was designed by Candid Rogers Architecture and is just 320-square foot in size. The home takes advantage of the immediate surroundings to extend its overall living space, melding interior and exterior elements which are so often a key element in the design of any small home.

Designed as a retreat by Candid Rogers, the homes rustic exterior embraces the surrounding landscape. The house is ‘stacked’ with the upper level cantilevering outwards and providing shade for the lower parts of the house, which consists of a dining/kitchen area and bathroom. The upper level, accessed through a small alternative staircase, is used as a lofted bedroom.

The bedroom features a large picture window, framing the desert landscape. The bottom two panes are opaque for privacy and to reduce solar heat gain. The kitchen is connected to the exterior shaded patio by a set of flap doors. The house is clad in cor-ten steel, and won the AIA San Antonio Design Award in 2007, and the AIA National Small Projects Award, 2008.
