The Hawk House by Alex Wyndham

Big Sur

Designed and built by Alex Wyndham, the Hawk House is a tiny cabin that can be found amongst the mountains of Big Sur, California.

The cabin is just seven-by-nine foot, and consists mostly of timber, from it’s structural frame to the cladding (both interior and exterior). It contains three foldable walls clad in redwood bark, and is built into the hillside, sheltering it from the wind and rain.

Alex orientated the cabin so as to take advantage of natural lighting, heating and cooling.

With most of the materials being sourced from a local sawmill, the Hawk House has been constructed in a sustainable fashion, from material use to design.

The foldable wall compartments and the large folding glass doors help to encourage natural ventilation, cooling the tiny cabin when the heat gets to be too much. The glass doors also provide amazing views of the Pacific Ocean.

The green-roof and rustic exterior allows the tiny cabin to blend in with the surrounding environent, bridging the gap between a man-made structure and nature.
