Small Fiscavaig House Minimises It’s Impact On The Environment

Fiscavaig by Rural Design

This small home can be found on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Created by Rural Design, the home’s aesthetic and overall form have been carefully crafted in an attempt to minimise the homes impact on the surrounding landscape, both visually and physically.

The house is approximately 750 square feet in size and rests on ‘slits’, reducing the amount of disruption and excavation required to construct a suitable foundation.

Located in western Skye, the designers have sought to capitalise on natural light and ventilation by introducing several large, operational picture windows. The windows on the right-hand-side of the home are also recessed into a little alcove, helping to provide some degree of solar shading during the summer months.

The interior has a vernacular feel, with sparse furnishings and a bare material finish, in contrast to the exterior which is very clean cut, streamlined and modern – my favorite aspects of this small home.
