Micro-Apartment Capitalises On Available Space

At 320-square-foot, this apartment doesn’t have much space to work with, but with the roof line starting 4′ from the floor level, any usable wall space is quickly diminished further.

To capitalise on the space available to them, Dutch architecture firm, Queeste Architecten, employed a variety of tricks in an attempt to make the space as functional as possible without compromising the occupants lifestyle. The sides of the apartment are lined with storage, or amenities such as the kitchen and toilet, allowing the section of the home with the most head height to remain free for use as circulation space.

Generous amounts of fenestration in conjunction with the clean white surface finishes help to keep the tiny apartment feeling light and spacious (at least more so than it would have been if less light was introduced).

“The strong identity of the plan was created using a very limited palette of forms and colours. Rounded corners were applied throughout to imbue the small space with a sense of softness.”
